Four Filipino sisters—Mylene, Irene, Celina, and Almira—floored the judges of Superstar K, a popular South Korean talent show series, with their powerful vocals during the preliminary auditions. The sibling quartet MICA, formerly known as the Gollyan Sisters, revealed during the show that they were self-proclaimed Ailee fans and were stunned when to see the K-pop star as one of the judges.
“For us, she’s like the Beyonce of Korea,” the sisters said. “We didn’t even know she was a judge. We’ve been watching her videos on YouTube and now we’re here.”
Their admiration for the K-pop vocalist clearly showed as they flawlessly performed Ailee’s hit song “U&I” entirely in Korean. Ailee seemed to enjoy the performance as she was seen singing and dancing along with MICA from her seat.
“I’m really impressed that you guys harmonized everything. Had everything on point. It really, really moved me. By far the most amazing rendition I’ve ever heard. Thank you so much,” Ailee said to the sisters.
Aside from covering Ailee’s song, MICA also sang a breathtaking rendition of “Let It Go” from the Disney movie Frozen. The judges praised MICA for both performances and ultimately gave them the ok to move onto the next round, causing the sisters to cheer and jump with joy outside the audition room.
“Superstar K is not a joke. It’s like a very huge competition in Asia,” MICA said. “Being part of this is like a dream come true that we can share our talent to the whole world.”
The MICA sisters are no stranger to competing in audition shows. In 2012, they won the grand prize on the ABS-CBN show It’s Showtime and also won the title of Senior Grand Champion in the Vocal Group of the World at the 17th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in Hollywood, California in 2013.
“We want to pass Top 10,” MICA said when asked about their goal in Superstar K, also adding that they used to watch Roy Kim on the show and would want to perform on a big stage like he did in the near future.
