The Aptera is not just another electric vehicle; it is designed to travel up to 40 miles a day on solar power alone, without recharging. The American startup aims to empower users to travel far using solar energy while ensuring their safety. The vehicle distinguishes itself with a carbon fiber aerodynamic shell that is both strong and lightweight. This design gives it an exceptionally low drag coefficient, even lower than the most aerodynamic cars in the world. Besides its innovative design and lightweight body, this electric tricycle is equipped with 700-watt solar panels covering the roof and hood. Additionally, it can reach a top speed of 100 mph, thanks to its 201 horsepower (150 kW) electric transmission.

More Than 300 Miles on a Single Charge

The Aptera covered an impressive 300 miles on a single charge, starting from Flagstaff, Arizona, and ending in Imperial Valley, California, with Steve Fambro behind the wheel. The journey began early in the morning in snowy Flagstaff, where the vehicle had already absorbed 300 watts of solar energy before sunrise. The co-CEO of the startup highlighted that everything went smoothly during this inaugural road trip through the American Southwest.

The route from Flagstaff to Hackberry, passing through Kingman and reaching the sunny Lake Havasu, presented various challenges: mountain passes, potholes, desert winds, highways, and winding country roads. According to Fambro, this was a significant achievement for a solar electric vehicle, which is no longer a futuristic concept but a practical solution ready for use.

A Significant Milestone for Aptera

According to Steve Fambro, this road trip marks a pivotal milestone for the company. It allowed them to test the Aptera in real-world conditions and demonstrate the potential of solar-powered electric vehicles. “Every mile traveled by our production vehicles brings us closer to a future where every journey is powered by solar energy,” he concluded. Is the Aptera ready for the general public? The company claims to have already received 48,000 reservations. This year, they plan to produce a limited number of units, with an annual production target of 20,000 vehicles by 2027.

The Launch Edition is priced at approximately $37,000. According to the American startup, this edition will be equipped with a 400-mile battery (rechargeable with a charger) for long trips.
